Not just another bride and groom

We loaded up the Outback and headed North again. This time to celebrate the wedding of my oldest friend and her wonderful Husband Aaron in the rolling hills of Vernon.

I arrived Saturday to a 'girls' party hosted by Laisha's amazing friends.

Sunday morning we headed over to the Lone Pine Ranch to help transform the rustic barn into and elegant hall.
You know the saying 'too many cooks' but Kalish (sp?) was put in charge and take charge she did...Thank God!

Once things were looking good we headed back to the mall for some last minute items.
Here's a few shots I took on the way.

Later that day we showed up a little early to assemble the Norwegian wedding cake.

That's mom and I putting the roses on.
We seem to have the same expression..that's concentration for you

The wind blew and the rain threatened but the ceremony was not affected at all.
The bride was so beautiful and the groom was the definition of joy.

The best women gleamed with pride an the minister was funny.

After a few chilly minutes huddling by the kitchen door for heat, the bell was rung and the party was begun.

The bride pulls off the top of the cake and the number of layers that come away are the number of children in their future

It was a great night for a special couple.

Monday was open house at Laisha's Parent's. They fed us like no one has ever been fed before.
I've never seen my mother eat so many cabbage rolls.

Here are a few pictures from that day.

darling buds of may

Does anyone remember that show? Catherine Zeta-Jones, the early years.

Anyway, twas a lovely weekend at the old homestead. We had lots of spring rain and warm temps.
Grams bought 4 tomato plants and I planted them.
They are ummm.... Glacier, Black Krim and 2 others I can't remember

Aren't they cute. I'm sure that they will out grow out of those round metal things in like a month. It seemed the right thing to do at the time.

The rest of the seeds started to sprout last week. Here's a look at how things are progressing

Monty, being the oldest, is always looking to turn any situation into a learning experience.

Here Monty demonstrates 'Near' and 'Far'

I decided to take a break from dirt. So, I made some art for my dirt.
Using old fence wood from Ted I cut out the shapes with our new fancy laser guided jig saw ( thank you Laisha and Aaron)

someART

A good friend told me that the best way to produce art is to force yourself to have a show.
Set a date and then you HAVE to produce something.
So, I'm going to take her advice and test this theory out.
I'll let you know when I pick a date...you didn't think I was that far along did you???
For now, here's something you might see at my show.

Yes it's dog related...go figure...paint what you know!

Spring in the Garden

Well, I'm not really sure where to begin with this post so, let's just look at a cute picture of my dog Chester...

chester

Awwwww...he's a mamma's boy alright.

Ok, we worked really hard last weekend after having 8 cubic yards of compost mix delivered to our backyard

See the pile of dirt? It's BIG...Richie says that he secretly loves moving dirt but don't tell Klay or she'll order more.

Need a rest? Here's a cute picture of my other dog Jack. He's a Border Collie, do you have any work for him? He's a Border Collie. Feel like playing Frisbee? He's a Border Collie. Have any cars you need chased? He's a Border Collie...

jack

OK, Not much of a rest but we're moving on from that...

We prepared the vegetable garden space for dirt, added about 6-8 wheelbarrow loads and spread it out to level the ground a bit

preplanting3

preplating2

Mom and I went to the local nursery and got some seeds and a few baby plants.
We planted Broccoli, Cauliflower, Cucumbers, Peas, Lettuce, Spinach, Basil, Parsley and one Artichoke...we'll see how that works.

By the way, it's important the wear the least attractive outfit in your garden. I think it makes the veggies feel better about themselves....blue socks are optional.

We left room for about 4 tomato plants which will be planted in a couple weeks...come on SUN!

OK, so we had lots of dirt left and I wanted to extend the perennial beds in the front yard so...
Here's a before shot.

and here's an after shot...same bed different angle. Looks like the dogs have a lovely path planned. They like to landscape design on the side.

Monty is the supervisor and Jack is the Laborer...He's a Border Collie.

Sunday I decided to get out and start edging the front beds before the plants get too big.
This is the second summer for these perennials.

Here are a couple before and after shots.. ENJOY!
