puke blankets and pretty dresses

It must be baby season!

On Sunday I attended a baby shower for Nancy who is due in
March with a little girl named Rome. Shower is the right word for
it because shower her we did – gifts, love, advice, she got it all.

let's hope those ultrasounds haven't been missing something, something
distinctively male...cause that's a lot of pink!

P2170198
no man could endure this

P2170199
my friend, co-worker and neighbor, Nita, took time to teach Zola some yoga.

Nancy, you could tell, was thrilled with each and every gift.

P2170109
and the crowd went crazy every time Nancy opened yet another totally adorable outfit.

I had fun too, taking time from homework and housework to make something for Nancy.

Since I know the baby's name, I thought I'd take advantage and create one
of those soft books that I've always wanted to make.

"r" is for rabbit

"o" is for octopus

"m" is for macaroni

and "e" is for elephant

Since Nancy is a news editor I bought some of this 'animal news'
fabric from superbuzzy and made a small, simple, quilt and a bib.

(fabric makes all the difference)

I ended up wrapping the entire thing in these burp (puke) clothes.
The fleurs d'lis is a shout out to Nancy's and her husband, Brian's,
hometown and roots in Louisiana. This is a Louisiana baby!

Among the oohs and ahhhs of yet another gorgeous baby outfit and super soft
receiving blanket, someone says "they're also good for wiping up puke!"
Wise words from a mother who knows the truth.
I say, if you're going to be wiping up puke do it with something lovely.

In other wonderful and amazing baby news. My friend by proxy and
one who I admire, Marita, gave birth (a couple weeks late) to her second
beautiful son and named him Avner. Baby arrives to the loving arms of an
amazing family. Big hugs to you all!

And so I embark on the 37th

Yes, it my very own birthday post.

As I pull a giant white dog hair out of my brown rice spinach pasta,
I find it hard not to laugh. I wonder how many dog hairs I've eaten
and laugh at the thought of a dog hair diet.

I watched my 90 year old grandfather devour the free chocolate
cake and ice cream with chocolate sauce that they give you at
restaurants when you tell them it's your birthday and I find it
hard not to laugh.

I step ankle deep into a cold slush puddle while getting out of the car.
Soaking my shoe, sock, foot and pant leg - I didn't like those shoes anyway.

This is what I've learned so far - life is funny.

Now to the gifts!

Richard and I somehow pooled enough money to purchase
a new computer - I'm still not sure how but we did.
We decided on this new iMac - it's pretty and oh so much better than the
power Mac G4 I've had since 2002.

Here, you can see the old and the new - except in the new
what you see is what you get, the old has a giant CPU
not shown in this photo.

perhaps you need more info to be convinced that this was a good
purchase - well can your computer do this!?

Also, I decided that I would finally have one of my paintings framed
and with generous birthday donations I was able to get this done.

It think it's so pretty and looks like real art now :)
Once it's in it's final placement, I will take more stylish photos.

Here's to number 36!

Where's the craft?

This will be short because, while I have much to say,
the multi-tasking aspect of my life is in control.
Lately I divide my time between work, homework and going to class.

I have managed to sit and knit with my Mom two Sundays in a row!
I am making a sweater - actually it's a sweater vest...nice!

I miss the posts where I display my crafty side.
I miss exchanging craft kudos with all you crafty ones out there.
I also feel terrible because there are such good
excuses to make things right now
babies, birthdays, good friends.
I guess there will always be birthdays and good friends....

on the left is a work project, on the right are my text books.
Somewhere between the two is knitting.

I hope that I will be back to craft posting soon.

SEE WHAT I'M WORKING ON IN CLASS
(this is a work in progress)

I'm new to web design and I'd love feedback.
This design is supposed to be simple and easy to navigate.
Like it? Hate it? not working? let me know.
